Dr. Zhengping Qian is now a Staff Engineer and Manager of the Stream & Graph Analytics Group at Alibaba Cloud. He is also serving on the Alibaba Cloud Technical Committee. Before joining Alibaba, Dr. Qian was a Lead Researcher at Microsoft Research. His research interests are in distributed and data-parallel computing. He won the Best Paper Award in EuroSys 2012. Dr. Qian received his Ph.D. from South China University of Technology in 2009.

讲座摘要:

Big-Data applications impose significant challenges in computing infrastructures. In this talk, I will introduce our projects on the systems support for Big-Data computation both at Microsoft Research and Alibaba Cloud in the past few years. Our journey began with understanding real production systems: focusing on efficient batch processing (Dryad) and effective sharing of cluster resources (Apollo). Based on the experience gained, we identified and enabled new capabilities such as matrix computation (MadLINQ) and real-time streaming (TimeStream, SCOPE Streaming and Galaxy). I will focus on the abstractions for building such systems, as well as the design choices we made according to the real, production requirements and workloads.
